Working for a timber merchant and arts collector, JBA held an in-house competition to design an extension to an imposing Georgian property surrounded by picturesque farmland. A haphazard 1980’s double height extension links the main house and multiple disused outhouses.

My proposal consisted of removing the disused buildings, making good and retaining the double height space of the previous extension and building outwards towards the courtyard to maximize the views of the rolling hills and surrounding farmland.

Internally the existing double height space plays host to the clients large scale artworks. New window & door openings look out towards a private front garden, whilst the proposed extension to the back of the property boasts a bold oak timber kitchen, social seating area and a feature ‘living wall’.

This space extends outwards to a small courtyard and beyond. A contemporary & muted colour palette has been adopted to allow the clients art work and warmth of the natural timbers to permeate through. Polished brass fixtures will be subtly used throughout, whilst accents of the natural limestone architecture are
